Dean Stewart
Dean has spent over 20 years in aviation management, working for airlines, suppliers and consultancies in executive positions. He specialises in Crew Management and Planning and the design, implementation, delivery and administration of Operations Systems to airlines.
Dean has been responsible for end-to-end design and delivery of FRMS into several airlines:
At AirTanker he was responsible for the Civilian Fatigue Risk Management programme, while working alongside Flight Safety in the Royal Air Force to align military procedures with Civilian best practice. He delivered training to both civilian and military crew and staff.
During the transformation of Airline Operations at Air Malta, he set up the airline’s Safety Management System, including the authoring of the Incident Response Manual and delivery of FRM principles and training into the airline.
Dean worked with Vueling to update and reconfigure the Operations and Crew Control systems and spent time with The Fatigue Manager developing new procedures and metrics to ensure successful monitoring and control of their FRM programme.
Most recently Dean has been working with Virgin Atlantic on a full gap analysis of their current FRM to recommend best practice and future enhancements.
Dean has been working in the field of FRM since 2005 when XL Airways first introduced basic FRM awareness into their rostering procedures. He also works with airlines on process, procedure and culture change projects and believes in a scientific, data led approach to managing crewing issues to improve the lives of the crew members.
Dean is an adviser to Aircraft Commerce magazine on Consultancy and Operational issues and works with Aircraftit.com as their Crewing and Operations specialist. He also advises Airline Management Group on Crew Planning and Fatigue Risk Management, and mentors many young managers he has worked with in the past.
